What happened to the password/security on my Linksys broadband router

Setting up my wireless router with my Verizon dsl was easy, but I just switched to cable broadband. After I got everything set up with the new modem, my connection shows as an unsecured network without the name I assigned to it (now it just shows as 'linksys'). How do I fix this? I have Vista Home Premium. Any help is appreciated. What happened to the password/security on my Linksys broadband router
What you need to do is log into the router and change the settings.

From your web browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox), enter 192.168.1.1. It will ask for a username and password. Enter ';admin'; (sans quotes) for both. (If it comes up saying it can't find 192.168.1.1, try 192.168.0.1)

Once you're in the interface, click on the ';wireless'; tab. Here you can change the network name (SSID). Under the security tab (Which should be on the row of links below ';wireless), you can enter a WEP or WPA key.

I'm sorry I can't be more specific. It has been a while since I used the WRT54G.

  • Can someone help me enable wireless function with my new wireless modem?

I recently added AT and T DSL to my landline. My computer is a new HP w/ a Vista operating system. I have used my laptop on numerous other wireless networks. I have had all kinds of issues setting up this AT and T service and have previously had no problems with other services. I bought the wireless modem from AT and T ';2WIRE 2701HG-B';. I have gone through the entire AT and T setup a few times and the AT and T home network site. I have read several of the other answers on Y! Answers and they have not helped either. My modem is working on the ethernet, but I cannot figure out how to use wireless!! I am so frustrated - - if someone could help, I would greatly appreciate it. Feel free to contact me directly! Can someone help me enable wireless function with my new wireless modem?
If you have wireless network follow these steps:

    1:Open start/control panel/performance and maintenance/administrative tools/services

2:And scroll down and go to wireless zero configuration and right click on that. And make sure that the startup tipe is automatic.

3:After you do that close everything and go again to start/control panel/network and internet connection/network connection/and right click on your wireless network and it has to be ennabel.Click it and you are done.

4:If accidently it says disable insted of enable this isnt your problem.Remember this isnt your problem only if it says disable if it is enble dont do this ok. Go to start/control panel/network and internet connection/network connection/and right click on your wireless network and hit properities. And go to wireless networks up there and click on use windows to configure your wireless network settings. And you are done. Can someone help me enable wireless function with my new wireless modem?

Can anyone Who uses Windows Media Center on Their Xbox 360 help Me?

What I have at My disposal:

Xbox 360 Which is connected to Xbox LIVE

    Windows Vista Home Premium Laptop

D - Link wireless connector (from My little Brother's XP computer)

    MTA / Modem

    D - Link Wireless Router

    The problem:

I've tried to connect My 360 just as it said but while My laptop was searching for My 360, which has The D - link wireless connector plugged in, it couldn't find it, and My question is,

Do I have to use the official Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter, or can I use the D - link connector that I have?

As a third option, are there any substitute connectors that are compatible with the Xbox 360?

Finally, How should I have it all set up?

Any clarification will help, thanks. Can anyone Who uses Windows Media Center on Their Xbox 360 help Me?
If you are connected to XBOX Live. You should be able to connect to a laptop that is connected to your router.

Just do the connection again. And it should work.

That is only if you have your Live connection.

Update: It does work with Vista. As I have mine hooked up to my Vista Computer. Can anyone Who uses Windows Media Center on Their Xbox 360 help Me?

Laptop Advice..How does this Dell look?

Hey guys..I know many of you will have your opinions on which notebooks are better and macs are terrible or hp rules but i'm pretty set on going with the Dell. I've had good experiences before.

This notebook will be primarily used for internet surfing, iTunes/music, report typing, DVD, studying tool, pictures, etc. Not much gaming- if any at all. I have a webcam attatchment, mouse, cooling fan and little speakers added but I won't list them out here. I wanted to know how this configuration matches up, and any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Looks good but I would go with Vista Home PremiumLaptop Advice..How does this Dell look?
In my opinion I wouldn't go with dell, because I have had many dells, and they all had major problems, which is the reason I had to learn how to fix it. It looks like a good laptop, but I'm not a big fan of dell, the life span though, is not very long.
Get Vista Home Premium if you can.

    Thanks

Sorry for the long question, please don't complain about the CAPS its soppost to help you =]Wireless Connectivity Lost??? (Adapter Problem)?
What it sounds like is actually not a problem in itself but can be a problem. The fact that you use 2 different routers sounds like the issue. When you connect to a residential router, your router assigns your adapter an IP address. Each router uses its own range of addresses. So when you connect to your mums router, that router assigns an address to your adapter. If connect to your nans router, then that router will assign you an address. The problem can lie when your going between routers and getting address. The address assigned from one router may conflict with the other router and may not work. Thats why when you reset your adapter you get a new address and then it seems to work. Thats the way wireless seems to connect automatically, but its not intelligent enough! The address assignment is suppose to make things easier for you and me. Now sorry if you already knew that.

Now if you do not have Windows Zero Config in your services, that could be a problem because that simplifiies and speeds up the process. That service should have been installed along with windows vista on your computer as it is a vital service.

I suggest backing up your documents and files that you can't afford to lose and then do system restore. If that does not restore the proper services then the only thing would be to reinstall windows. To do that you need your Vista CD. Let me know if you need help doing that. I'm sorry that you have to deal with this but thats another irritating factor about wireless technology and the services that windows should provide but doesnt. Hope this helps!

That notebook should be suitable for WoW and any other games you want to play. One thing you might look at is the Dell Vostro 1500 in the Small Business section of the website, which is almost the same notebook as the Inspirion 1520, and sometimes comes out cheaper (nothing wrong with what you've got, though).

  • How do I change Windows drive icons?

In Windows XP (it may still happen in Vista, but I haven't yet observed it), I remember that, for empty memory card slots, the drive icon in My Computer would be washed out. If I would put a card into that drive, the icon would appear in full color. In the system Registry (or in Disk Management or anywhere else), is there a way to set this up? (in regedit, I am looking at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\DriveIco鈥?) This way, I'll have Icon A appear when there's nothing in the drive, and Icon B appear when I put a card in the drive. Thanks for the help!

NOTE: I am using Windows Vista Home Premium. The Registry key I mentioned early SEEMS to work exactly as it did in Windows XP, but I could be wrong.

ANOTHER NOTE: I am planning to use this on drives that do not neccesarily appear in Disk Management (ex: network memory card drives). If your method absolutely must use Disk Management and/or not work with network drives, then do post it, but otherwise try to avoid this kind of problem.

A third note (of slightly less significance): I used this article from PC Magazine to learn how to set up icons in the registry. It does not address my issue with having two icons for a drive. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,202鈥?/a>How do I change Windows drive icons?
To change the icon displayed within explorer for a drive requires changes to the windows registry.

    1. Create (if it does not already exist) the registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Explorer\ DriveIcons\ X\ DefaultIcon

where 'X' is the drive letter of the drive for which you wish to change the drive icon.

    2. Change the key's default value to hold the fully qualified name of the icon file (e.g. 'c:\myicons\cdrive.ico').

If the file contains more than one icon then follow it with a comma and the zero-based index of the icon (e.g. 'c:\myicons\mylib.dll,2').

    3. To see the effect restart Windows - although, depending on the version of windows simply refreshing the window might be sufficient.
