Home Networking Question?

Okay, I have a home network and here is basically how it's set up:

I have one broadband modem in the basement connected to a netgear wireless router and the router is connected to a Dell desktop dual-booting Windows XP and Vista (though the NIC isn't recognized by Vista, so we'll just say XP).

Main level - Toshiba Satellite wirelessly connects to internet via router fine; PS3 wirelessly connects to internet via router fine.

Upper level - HP Media Center PC running Vista Home Premium connects to internet via router fine. Also, I am sharing media from WMP11 to the PS3 with no problems.

My question is this: I am trying to share my media with the other PCs as well, and none of them are able to see my PC. Is this because the Toshiba and the Dell are running XP and not Vista?

Also, attempting to share a printer from the Dell, the Toshiba and the HP PC cannot seem to find it. Any suggestions as to why? The printer is a Canon MF3110.

Thanks in advance.Home Networking Question?
You need to check to check a few things on all of the computers. Check the firewalls if they are built into any Security systems like Norton or Trend Micro.

Also, you may just have corrupt settings. Run Dial-A-Fix on all of your XP machines and ensure all of them have file sharing turned on. In Vista, ensure it's not password required.

It's merely a matter of settings. Also, ensure all of the computers are on the same WORKGROUP or they will not show up in Network Places, only via IP.

As for the printer, add it as a local printer using a local port on the Toshiba and HP ... ie'; \\PC-NAME\SHARED PRINTER NAME'; Should find it no problem then, provided they are on the same WORKGROUP.Home Networking Question?
could be the vista v XP but my guess is (without more info or actually seeing your PC).. Your firewall on one of the PC's is not set up for it. There are a number of different things actually that can be the problem.
i think your problem probably lies in the 'netgear' router.

I had router problems in the past,I talked to some very knowledgable people and they all said that netgear is crap!! I switched to a Linksys,,,, well worth the extra money..
