I have a desktop that has Windows XP that has a wired connection to the internet. I have a laptop that has Windows Vista that has a wireless connection to the internet. My router is a Linksys Wireless N. How can I set up a network so that my laptop can share files and printers with the desktop wirelessly?Wireless Home Network Setup?
Know that all wireless routers do not allow the computers to communicate with each other. Most of them only allow them to separately use the one wired internet connection. If the router does not support the use of shared files and printers, you will need a special hub installed on each pc. Then, a cable will have connect them together. They are available as a wireless setup but this unit is very expensive.
For a wireless internet connection, the desktop computer will be attached to the wireless router and then the router to the modem via an Ethernet cable. The laptop will need a special pci card to enable it to connect with your router. This card is usually preinstalled in the pc. Since your router is a wireless-n setup (band 802.11n), the laptop will need a wireless-n pci card. If the laptop does not have this card, you will need to buy one before the network can be functional.
