I need help setting up a network printer on my laptop. On the laptop I am running Windows Vista Home Premium (64bit) and the desktop computer, the one with the printer, is running Windows XP Home (32 bit.) How do I set up my laptop to print remotely via the printer attached to the desktop pc? If it matters, the printer is a Dell Photo AIO 924. I need to know how to set up both computers, not just the laptop. Thank you!Network Printer Help?
64 or 32 is not an issue
here is how you can do it
on the computer wuth xp go to control panel find the printer
right click it and click share
I would suggest renameng it some thing like printer2
then open a folder and click tools folder options scroll down to the bottom and check enable simple file sharing on the bottom of view
that if your xp is professional if not that step is unnecessary
now go to the vista machine
go to the printer page from control panel click add a printer add a network or wireless printer click printer is not listed click select shared printer by name
stop here you must know the name of the xp computer
to do that right click my computer click properties and click computer name
and find out what is your computer name
lets say its name is user-pc
back to the vista type the following
\\usre-pc\printer2 and click next
the vista will automatically install the drivers and you will be able to print a test page
you might be presented with a varity of printers to choose from
choose your printer make and model
and click next
and you are doneNetwork Printer Help?
Use the installation disc...make sure to allow sharing on the PC that has the printer connected %26gt;Control Panel %26gt;Printers and Faxes %26gt;(choose your printer-right click %26gt;Properties) Share tab %26gt;allow sharing
