Home network is most straightforward.

Make sure they're both connected to your home router.

On the laptops, at the command prompt (start-%26gt;run-%26gt;cmd) check that they can see each other (by ping'ing each other).

you can get their respective IPs (';computer numbers';) by typing 'ipconfig' into the command prompt. the number is the IPv4 address in Vista (similar in XP).

'ping IP' (substitute IP with the number you got from ipconfig. If you are getting ';replies'; (as opposed to ';request timed out';), then the 2 are properly networked.

The instructions after the link will enable you to share a folder from the XP from which you can copy from. How to transfer files between lap tops?
you could get a data transfer cable...or just do what your doing...and convert all the m4a to mp3 again by using media-convert.com
Buy a 2Gb memory stick for around 拢20 and transfer everything across.

Failing that, buy an external harddrive for around 拢70. They great for backing up and storing old files (old photos etc)
click start menu, all programs, accessories, system tools, files and settigs transfer wizard , you gonna need a USB 2.0 Multi-Linq PC to PC Cable
If you can't set up a network, use a data transfer cable or transfer to a usb flash - such as this 8gb flash drive
