How to Connect to internet wirelessly with Vista on the laptop and XP on the PC?

My sisters new laptop has Windows Vista on it and her home computer with the internet connection is XP. She is trying to network the two and share the internet. Her internet connection is ATT Yahoo DSL that runs through the phone line, she doesnt have to dial. How do you set up a network between the two so she can share the internet wirelessy with her laptop.

Her laptop is a Compaq Presario and she just got a Compaq Router I think it is. I havent actually looked at everything myself yet. She doesnt know anything about computers and I dont know much when it comes to networking and wireless. And I certainly dont know anything about Vista! Can someone please, step by step, tell me what she needs to do and on the Vista what all she has to do in order for it to be able to network with the PC that has XP on it? Please be as informative as you can and step by step. Thank you for your help!!!How to Connect to internet wirelessly with Vista on the laptop and XP on the PC?
I can't give details since I don't have of the exact equipment, but I can at least get you started. I do have XP and I have ATT Yahoo DSL.

It sounds like that the XP machine is connected straight to the DSL modem, and that is the way it is getting to the Internet. If it is like my modem that modem would have already been setup with the user name and password to log into Yahoo (at http://192.168.0.1/) and the modem will automatically give a IP address to what is connected to it, in this case the XP machine.

The first thing that is going to need to be done is connect the XP machine to the router and then the router to the DSL modem. The DSL modem should be connected to the WAN port, and the XP machine to one of the other (LAN) ports (normally there are about 4 ports and any one will do). You will need to go through the setting up of the router, look at the user's manual on how to connect to the router, usually like: http://192.168.1.1/

On the setup of the router you will want to it to connect to WAN (Internet/DSL modem) using DHCP, DHCP is a protocol for assigning IP addresses and so this says that the DSL modem will give the router its IP address. The router will then turn around and give any machines hooked to it their IP address.

Now hopefully that router also has wireless on it too (should have an antenna). Because you are going to want to connect that new laptop to the router using a wireless connection. The setting up of the router should help you to setup this. Be sure to make sure you learn how to turn on the security for the wireless connection if it isn't on by default.

So just so you get the whole picture. All the computers connected to a router will be able to talk to each other. It doesn't matter if they connect to the router with a wire or a wireles connection. When any computer wants to talk to the Internet they talk to the router and the router knows to ';route'; this message to the internet, and the returning message for this machine get routed back to it.

Note that you could also connect the Vista machine to the router with a cable instead of the wireless connection, but of course that is not as convenient.

As for connecting the Vista machine wirelessly to the router once that router wireless connection is setup it broadcasts that it is ready for connections and the Vista machine should see it on some list of ';networks'; it can connect to. And when you connect it is going to need a password or such that was created when you setup the wireless network on the router and turned on security.

Well good luckHow to Connect to internet wirelessly with Vista on the laptop and XP on the PC?
u will need a wireless router capable of connecting to DSL. although most people prefer to setup a password if u ever plan on using a PSP on the internet over the wireless connection u cannot have a password access
So the winxp is connected via ethernet to the Compaq router? To connect the Vista via wireless:

Click Windows Orb

Select Control Panel.

Select Network and Sharing Center (in Classic View).

Select Connection to a network.

Select the Wireless Network Connection( your Compaq router), and click Connect.Enter Wep key of your router then Connect
