Is it possible to share a dial-up connection ...?

on a laptop running Vista Home Premium (this computer will dial the number to get an internet connection from our ISP) and a desktop running Windows ME? They'll be connected together via a USB2.0 network cable (which is backward compatible with USB 1.0/1.1).

How do I go about setting that up? Installing the network cable drivers (know how to do) and configuring the sharing part on the laptop (no clue how do to).Is it possible to share a dial-up connection ...?
Right click on the network card that you want to share -%26gt; Properties -%26gt; Sharing -%26gt; enable sharing. For ICS (Internet Connection Sharing you must have at least 2 network cards. 1 to go for dial up and 1 to share to another computer. But for dial up, it's not advisable to share since it's the speed is slowIs it possible to share a dial-up connection ...?
The answer to your question is YES. In your situation, you do not need two network cards, you only need one. Your modem acts as the gateway connection to the internet for all other clients wanting to connect to the internet.

The basic setup would go like this:

1. Your modem connects to the Internet and you set up Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) on this interface

2. You now connect a CAT5 cable to a hub or switch from your laptop

3. Now, any other computers will be given issued an IP address from your laptop and your laptop will act as a gateway to the Internet.

Keep in mind that all the clients connecting in this fashion will be sharing the 56k modem speed, so Internet access will be sluggish.

Also, make sure all the clients connecting are setup for DHCP. As a note, you can also do this with a broadband connection, and in this situation, you would use TWO network interface cards.

Here is a primer on how to setup ICS in Windows:

Good Luck!
no, you can't. Dial-up only uses one phone line. if someone else wanted to use it you'd have to unplug to there computer.

Get verizon dsl it's only 15 dollars a month and they come with a router that shares connections using your wireless network card.

Hope this helps :)
only way is one phone line per computer, dialup is so slow anyway it is impossible to share
