I have one computer running vista connected via a LAN cable to the router, the other is running XP and is connected via a wireless card to the router. Please help I want to set up a network with a name (for example Fish Network) and then have both computers with an individual names ie Shark %26amp; Swardfish and want to be able to access shared files I select on both pc's. I know it can be done as this is how I had it before but after a reinstall I need help remembering how I did it thanks!!Setting up a home computer network Help Please?
You have 2 options, you can either run through the Vista home network configuration wizard, or somewhat easier is to set up both computers' Workgroup to ';Fish'; and name each computer respectively to Shark and Swordfish. Assuming you're connecting to the SAME router, the dynamic IP assigned should be in the same subnet and you should see each other.
To configure the Workgroup and Computer name, just right click on ';My Computer'; either on your desktop or from the start menu and choose ';Properties'; should be the General tab and you want to change the computer name and Network ID.
