I am trying to set up a small network. I have set up two PC's and three laptops with wired and wireless connections to a speedtouch router. All are connected OK. I have told all to connect to a workgroup. I cannot find the other computers on the network. Either by network wizard of through ping cmd. Is this a general imcompatability issue between the different versions of Vista (One laptop runs Vista Business the other two Vista Home premium) and the two desktops which are both XP Pro? How can I get the computers to share files? Going round in circles with the set up wizards...........How do i network computers running Win XP pro, Vista Home and Vista Business?
First of all u need set up urs own unique network name instead of using deafult name like WORKGROUP then the other pc will join this network name like coolnet with user id and password then they will be in the same network without any problemHow do i network computers running Win XP pro, Vista Home and Vista Business?
you need to set up a star network, one main pc, used to control and maintain the other pc's in the network.
also use it to store the shared files, so there accessable from each pc, it will have to e under an admin account though.
il place enthasis on the word 'business' to the comment below
u donot need any star network.... in vista, right click network... select properties...... now in the right pane, select ';network discovery'; to on..... select ';file sharing'; and ';public folder sharing'; to on ...... and select ';password protection'; to off...... and apply the settings......
then in my computer, share atleast one folder or drive......
and thats it..... it shud work now........
