how do you ping. ive activated the printer sharing on xp, so i dont knowNetwork pcs cant see eachother?
1)make sure you have to log-on to both computers as to type in a password on startup

1a)make sure you have the same network name for both computers

2)on the computer with the printer attached add the username/password used to log on to the laptop under users on this pc

3)on the computer with the printer be sure to share the printer and give it a share name such as hp4200

4)on the laptop go to printers add printer then network printer it will scan the network and list the printers select the shared printer and then next it will ask you to install driver allow if it doesnot find one put in the printer disk for the printer(but donot install and tell it to search the disk

5)after install print a test page to make sure everthing is working properlyNetwork pcs cant see eachother?
hi

To ping, start%26gt;%26gt;run%26gt;%26gt;type cmd in the box%26gt;%26gt;then type ping %26amp; whatever name you've give to your Computer, for example your Computer is called ';Home'; to ping it type ';ping Home'; (without the commas.) Same goes for whatever you named your printer. Hope it's of some help! Good luck.

EDIT - Have you given your laptop and PC a different name? If not do so %26amp; try again. Best of luck..
