Trying to network vista and windows xp?

i have 3 computers

1 desktop windows xp home wired network

2 laptops windows vista wireless network

1 netgear router wireless/wired combo

the desktop computer wont regonize the two laptop computer, the two laptop computers recognize each other on the network,

FACTS:

all computers have the same workgroup name.

all the firewalls are turned off on all computers.

network sharing is enabled on all computers

i shared the complete hard drive C:/ on the desktop computer

i dont know the password to the router to set it up ( but the two laptops still regonize each other without messing with the router settings...?)

in windows xp when i click ';view network computers'; and it says ';the network is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator to find out if you have persmission. the network path was not found';

the printer is hooked up to the desktop computer and i want the laptops to be able to print to the printer. also i need a brief explanation on how to get the desktop computer to wake on print ( wake up from sleep mode when a laptop sends a print command )

i cant figure out whats going on. the only thing i can think of is that the desktop computer is wired and the laptop computers are wirless making it hard to connect. should i get a wireless usb drive for the desktop? would that fix things?Trying to network vista and windows xp?
Are you admin on your Windows XP computer? If your not try to run as admin and check if it works.
