Can I set up a Home Network with my Windows XP PC and Vista PC?

I was wondering if it's possible to connect my Windows XP and Vista PCs in my house together to freely access files from both PCs.

Currently, I got access to the Internet in both PCs through a router network connection, but I would like to link up the two PCs if possible.

If you can tell me how to do it, that'd be appreciated, thank you.Can I set up a Home Network with my Windows XP PC and Vista PC?
It is definitely possible. Take a look at this guide which explains the differences in networking between the two versions of Windows and instructions for networking the two PCs- http://windows.microsoft.com/en-CA/windo…

Windows should have a ';network wizard'; on both XP and Vista. Worst comes to worst, you can use a program like TeamViewer (www.teamviewer.com) to connect both machines to each other.

You can even take control of one machine from the other with it.

Make sure you name both ';work groups'; the same. MSHOME usually works best. XP uses MSHOME as a native name.

there's a walk through located here: http://www.informit.com/articles/article…

Good luck !

I currently have my desktop running Windows XP and I'm using the WiFi from a Linksys router to my Windows Vista laptop. It does this smoothly. When I try to share files and printers it seems to give me a lot of hassle when finding each other. I was able to obtain this once, but lost that after I did some network name/key.
First up – on your computer running XP, download and install the Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) Responder. If that link doesn’t work (it might not for very long, as it’s a direct link to the exe and Microsoft wants you to go through “Genuine Validation” – use this one.

Click Run when prompted.

You’ll have to click Next a couple of times, but that’s about it. What you’re not told, is that you have to reboot before it will work. So restart your XP PC after the installation is done.

Now on your computer running Vista, open the Network item from the Start menu. If your XP computer doesn’t show up, have no fear. Enter \\your-xp-ip-address in the address bar and hit enter. If you need help figuring out the IP address your XP computer is using, see this tutorial on determining your IP address in XP.

And now any of the shared folders or printers on your XP computer will be displayed.

Double-click a shared folder to access its contents.

You can create a shortcut to the shared XP folder by dragging it to your sidebar.

Right-click the new entry in your sidebar and select Properties. From the General tab you can rename the folder. Alternately you can just select Rename from the right-click menu.

Now the sidebar shortcut will display a more suitable name.

If you’d prefer to have the shared folder show up as a drive, right-click that folder and select Map Network Drive…

Choose the letter you’d like this drive to appear as (in the screenshot below I opted for F:). If you’d like the shared folder to be set as a drive each time your Vista PC starts, make sure Reconnect at login is selected. Click Finish when you’re done.

And now your shared folder will appear as its own drive.
