First, make sure you turn on the wireless function on your laptop. There is usually a switch, or buttone somewhere on the laptop. (Probably marked with a symbol of an antenna) If you don't have a wireless card built in, that would be a problem. Also, what is your SSID? You will need to know this to be able to connect. In addition check to be sure that you are connecting to the correct network (If you live in a populated area there may be more than one in range.) To check and see, click on the icon of two computers in the bottom right hand corner of your screen. A box will pop up, click on the link that says ';Connect or disconnect';. Once you have done that post everything that it says on this thread. Alternatively, if you have MSN or some other instant messenger, I could give you live help through it.
Edit:
______________
Have you tried unplugging and repluging in the power cord for the router? Also try click on the computer icons and clicking ';Network and sharing center'; Then there should be a window that pops up. Click the ';Customize'; link, and make sure the network ';Location type'; is set to private.
Other information that will help:
What brand of router are you using?
Do you by any chance know your IP address,How do I set up my Laptop onto a wireless network?
This is normally caused by an incorrect key, or setting the incorrect type of encryption (for home hub you want 64 bit WEP), and the key is he top of the 2 numbers on the hub label. If you are too far away from it this can laso make the connection fail.
