I have a laptop that has windows vista and a pc that has windows xp and I would like to set up a wireless network between the two with printer sharing. How do i set up a wireless home network where one computer has windows xp and one has windows vista?
Since the printer would presumably be connected to the XP system, you would first have to set the printer as being shared in the XP system. To do this you would click on ';Start';, and go to ';Printers and Faxes';. In ';Printers and Faxes'; right click on the printer that you want to share and left click on ';Sharing...'; It will likely tell you that ';As a security measure Windows has disabled remote access...';, you will want to click on the blue link that starts ';If you understand the security risks but want to share printers...'; You will get the options to ';Use the wizard to enable printer sharing'; and to ';Just enable printer sharing';, you'll want to select ';Just enable...'; and click on ';OK';. Then click on ';Share this printer'; and click on ';OK';. You can close the ';Printers and Faxes'; window.
Then on your Vista Laptop you'll need to make sure that when you connect to your wireless network you choose the ';Home'; profile. To confirm this you can click on start, then click on ';Control Panel';. When in the Control Panel click on ';Network and Internet'; and then on ';Network and Sharing Center'; and make sure that ';Network Discovery'; is turned on. Once you have made sure of that you can close the ';Network and Sharing Center';.
Then click on the Start button, then on ';Network';. Double click on the name of your XP computer. Then double click on the printer and click on ';Connect';. This will install the printer on your Vista system and allow you to print via the XP system.
Hope this helps-- Richard
