How to create home network with XP & Vista?

My PC with Windows XP is connected directly to a router.

My laptop with Windows Vista is wirelessly connected to the router.

How can I create a home network? My computer knowledge is just basic.. I have no idea how to set it up on both computers.

I want to be able to share files at will. For example I have a document in my PC I want to share, I just put it in a specific folder. That folder can be accessed from my laptop. I can do it through flash drive but sometimes the files I want to share are too big in size or too many. How to create home network with XP %26amp; Vista?
You can try the basic network setup wizard on windows XP...

start %26gt; control panel %26gt; Network setup wizard

and follow the on screen instructions, windows will give you the option to create a setup disc with a flash drive, but im not sure if this is the same on vista as i had vista a few hours and removed it again ... not an OS i enjoyed using unfortunately lol.How to create home network with XP %26amp; Vista?
On XP right click on the folder you want to share, and choose Advanced%26gt;Sharing. If you are not set up for sharing, when you try to set up the share XP will start a Wizard to turn sharing on. It will then ask to reboot. After that you can share folders.

In Vista it should be on anyway, so you can just share.

You access a share from a pc as

\\pcname\sharename

in either Windows explorer or Internet explorer.
Hi,

This is fairly simple.

Firstly to setup a network then on the xp machine click;

start

my computer

in the left hand navigation click my network places

again in the left hand navigation click setup a home or small office network, follow the wizard and leave everything as default.

Next you need to setup a network on the vista machine now i'm not sure how to do this so it may be worth doing a google search.

But i think that you click;

start

network

then network sharing centre or something like this

then there should be a tab with the network name in, click customise and change the network name to MSHOME or what ever you called the network on the xp machine.

Once this is done on both pc's then restart them.

Once they are restarted then you need to setup file sharing, now i will tell you how to do it xp to vista and vista to xp.

Firstly to setup file sharing on the xp, click;

start

my documents

in my documents create a new folder and call it what you like

then right click the folder and click on sharing, give it a name and click ok, the folder is then shared on the network.

Now to connect to the folder on the vista pc click;

start

network

view full network map

then double click the pc's icon with the shared folder, in the next screen you will see the shared folder, right click the folder and click, map network drive, this will place a shortcut in my computer so that its easy to access.

Now to share a folder on the vista pc to the xp machine is just the same.

Hope that helps any problems just e-mail and i will try to help.
