How Do I Set Up a Home Network?

I have one new Windows Vista desktop (with internet connection) upstairs and an older Windows XP downstairs. Is there a way I can have them ';share'; internet? Would it be expensive? Difficult to set up? I am computer challenged so any help great in detail would be awesome! How Do I Set Up a Home Network?
Go buy a wireless router, 1 ethernet cable, and a usb wireless network adapter. Install usb on downstairs pc.

Then connect like this

[your modem]----ethernet cable----[router wan/internet jack]

[router lan jack]---ethernet cable--[pc upstairs]

[router wireless connection]-----air-----[desktop downstairs]How Do I Set Up a Home Network?
you need a hub, cable to each computer, and then turn IIS on the machine actually connected to the internet, to ON.

OR wifi network with a wifi card in each computer. Again, IIS must be ON to share internat access.

A word of caution, wifi computers are easier to hack than wired computers, make sure all passwords are strong.
the xp downstairs not wired up for internet access at this point ?

if no then 1st step would be you'll need a router or switch (both do basically same function)
Well first get an airport extreme

plug it into a cable dsl modem (assuming you have one)

install the airport that came with the airport extreme onto vista

give the network a name

when you see the airport unit turn green

try the windows machine and it will tell that it detects a wireless connection

P.S.you will have to have a wireless card in the xp machine.

install it and buy one from the sources website just below my answer.
