I am trying to set up a home network for file and printer sharing?

But i do not know how. The main computer is Windows XP, and the laptop is Windows Vista. I am trying to connect them with an Ethernet cord.I am trying to set up a home network for file and printer sharing?
If you have router go for that option instead, if not Ethernet is tricky on mixed machines but so goes:

1 make sure you have crossed patch RJ45 cable normal one won麓t do

2 both machines need to be on the same network( My PC , properties, computer name, network)

3 Both machines need to share at least one folder so they can 篓see篓each other, easy file sharing helps tons

4 Firewall solutions sometimes prevent this so to start up switch them off ( temporary)

5 IP adresses should be the same at least for the first three groups 192.168.1.X example

Good luckI am trying to set up a home network for file and printer sharing?
Control panel/Network connections. There, run the setup for a new network connection and follow the directions. Run this on both PC's.
